The Andalusi Alcázar of Córdoba, also known as the Alcázar Viejo, was once the political and administrative heart of the city. To enhance understanding of this historically complex site, a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey was conducted in the surroundings of the Campo Santo de los Mártires to identify buried architectural remains from Late Antique and medieval periods.

The project was commissioned by the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid and carried out by cmprospection in collaboration with SOT Prospecció Arqueològica, the University of Córdoba, the Gerencia de Urbanismo del Ayuntamiento de Córdoba, and the University of Bamberg.

Covering a large and challenging urban area, including parks and public streets, the survey revealed valuable new data on subsurface structures and provides a strong foundation for future archaeological research at the site.
