Roman Danube Limes in Baranja
The section nominated for the UNESCO Tentative List “Danube Limes in Croatia” forms the central part of the extensive and complex Danube Limes and consists of a series of sites stretching 138 kilometers from the Batina Fort (Roman fort Ad Militare) near the Hungarian border to Ilok Fort (Roman site Cuccium) near the Serbian border. The section located in Osijek-Baranja County stretches from Batina to Dalj.
Between 2020 and 2024, several Roman sites along the Danube in Baranja were investigated using magnetic prospecting (total area: 225 ha) and ground-penetrating radar. The work was conducted by cmp in cooperation with the Archeologická Agentúra, Bratislava (Slovakia). The following sites were surveyed
- Dalj (Teutoburgium?): Magnetic prospection: 146 ha
- Dragojlov brijeg near Kneževi Vinogradi: Magnetic prospection: 77 ha
- Zmajevac (Ad Novas) : Magnetic prospection: 0.5 ha
- Batina-Gradac (Ad Militare): Magnetic prospection: 1.4 ha, GPR 0.7 ha
