Synthesis of magnetic data interpretation

The large settlement of Villamarzana, located on the banks of the Po di Adria palaeochannel, is crucial for understanding the transition from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age in the eastern Po Valley and the connections between central Polesine and Etruria from the 10th century BC onward.

In 2022, magnetic prospection covered approximately 21 hectares of the protohistoric site, about 4 km south-southeast of the trade and production centre of Frattesina. Interpretation of the magnetic data indicates distinct zones of human activity, including a 6-hectare settlement area with regularly arranged house remains and a 5-hectare production zone characterised by ditches and fireplaces. These areas can be clearly distinguished from surrounding sterile alluvial deposits, offering new insights into the organisation and economy of this prehistoric landscape.
