Northern Croatia was shaped by a landscape of roads, villae rusticae, and rural settlements connecting political and economic centres during Roman times. Within this context, a geophysical survey was carried out at the Roman villa rustica site near Kelemen in Varaždin County by cmp in collaboration with the Archeologická Agentúra, Bratislava (Slovakia). The investigation focused on identifying buried archaeological remains around a previously excavated Roman villa and along a presumed Roman road.

Covering more than 30 hectares, the survey employed a 16-channel SENSYS FGM650 gradiometer MAGNETO® MX V3 system, mounted on an ATV and combined with high-precision GNSS-RTK positioning. The results revealed numerous magnetic anomalies indicating the presence of a Roman vicus alongside the confirmed road, as well as areas of economic activity such as kilns and working pits, significantly expanding our understanding of the surrounding settlement landscape.
